Monday morning after the Super Bowl, students at Lorain County Community College showed mixed emotions. The game was between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Seattle Seahawks, so many die-hard Browns fans knew who to root for.
However, these fans came to school the next day disappointed, as the Steelers at the end of the day took home the Lombardi trophy. They beat Seattle 21-10, and put the voices of most Browns fans to silence, at least for a day.
Freshman Josh Kurtzman was saddened by the outcome. A lifelong Browns fan, he added that "most people should be."
But not everyone was as disappointed. The true Steelers fans of LCCC showed it on Monday, wearing their colors with pride.
Khash Zoree has grown up in this area since he was two years old, but was raised into loving the Steelers. He says that this year's Super Bowl was "the best ever."
"It was great to see them win it for the Bus," he said, referring to Steelers' running back Jerome Bettis, who retired after the game. "It was the best way for him to end his career."
Freshman Rachel Slavin, whose grandparents are from Pittsburgh, was pleased with the outcome as well, showing it on Monday in her black-and-gold Steelers' hoodie. "I loved the gadget play at the end of the game," she said, a 37-yard completion from running back Randle El to receiver Hines Ward.
Steelers' fans could not be happier after this year's game, and Browns fans were almost nowhere to be found on Monday morning. "The Browns and Steelers is the best rivalry in sports," Zoree added, "But it's good to hear the Browns fans congratulating the Steelers. It shows class."
The rivalry may be great. Yet not everyone around the campus shared the same enthusiasm. Eric Bailey watched the game, but it didn't bother him much that the Steelers won. "I'm not much of a football fan," he said, "so it didn't matter too much to me." He, like many others, enjoyed the party that comes along with every Super Bowl, and watching for the commercials.
