With LCCC Student Senate elections right around the corner, voters may be wondering what exactly it takes to be a student senate representative.
To even be able to qualify to run for a position on the senate, each interested person had to fill out a nomination packet, and get 100 signatures of students on campus.
There are six positions on the student senate: the Office of the President, Office of the Vice-President, Office of Executive Secretary, Office of Event Coordinator, Office of Financial Secretary, and a University Partnership Representative.
Ten candidates have been put on the ballot for elections. Sarah Perrigan, Daniel Barnicle, and Raymond J. Johnson are running for President. Anthony Haslage is up for Vice President.
Evan Gregg and Kristie Bensen are in the running for Executive Secretary. Sandra Gregus, Aaron J. Rosenbaum, and Jessica Reese are vying for Event Coordinator. Nathan Obral is running for the University Partnership representative. The Financial Secretary position is open.
The six-member senate has many responsibilities. In the Student Senate nomination packet under General By-laws, it is stated that members must "encourage student involvement campus-wide."
Other rules state that senators need to have ten hours of office time per week, and represent the student body on all issues.
They must be a representative on committees as assigned by the Student Senate president, and attend all regularly scheduled meetings.
