Pursuing diversity on campus was agreed on at a Diversity Issues meeting on April 12. The meeting was with faculty and students to discuss what happened at the Bellevue Community College presentation at the March 7 Student Senate meeting. (See related story: Instructor advocates diversity).
"The meetings went very well, and I think that everyone had an opportunity to participate," said Linda Toscano, the presidential fellow from the University of Toledo.
In a written statement from Dr. Karen Wells, Vice President for Learner Services and Chief Academic Officer, it was said that there was "a consensus to explore a forum for future discussion with respect to diversity and race relations and for Lorain County Community College" and "to pursue an initiative with regard to issues regarding diversity on campus."
As a result, members of a task force will use the outcomes of the meeting as they form recommendations.
"It went very well," said Amanda Roos, Student Senate Vice President. "And, I think we'll make a lot of progress from here on out."
LCCC's mission statement, which can be found on the college website, states that the college "serves a culturally diverse community by promoting education, economic, cultural, and community development."
The college website also states that they welcome "the unique talents and contributions of its diverse community."
