The Lorain County Community College Foundation is campaigning for a new sound system for the C. Paul Stocker Arts Center.
Of the initial cost of $200,000, $100.000 is still needed. If the additional $50,000 is raised by individual donations by the end of 2006, the foundation will make up the remainder. However, according to the foundation's advertisement publications, "time is of the essence."
The Stocker Arts Center sound system had not been updated in the 25 years since it was originally installed. Modern sound equipment has been rented from time to time to make up for the deficiencies of the older system.
"It's for the patrons really, especially those with hearing problems," said Vicki Diluciano, office assistant at the center. "The one (system) we have is very outdated for the size of our theatre. there's a lot of distortion."
Cassie Tetorakis, 17, visited the Stocker Center for the first time to watch "Our Town" with her high school's drama club.
"It was a good show, but it sometimes was hard to hear," she said.
The Stocker Center is visited by more than 50,000 people annually, easily making it one of the most visible parts of LCCC. The center's website says that the structure has hosted various acts including "vocal and instrumental groups, dance and theatre troupes, circus performers, politicians, acrobats, celebrities and more."
It is also the home venue for the LCCC Civic Chorale, Orchestra, Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Theatre program.
To make a donation, fill out one of the gift forms available throughout the Center area and follow the instructions, or call the LCCC Foundation at 440-366-4039 to learn more.
