The Great American Smoke Out: Efforts to promote healthier students and faculty

People had the opportunity to fill out a form for a sponsor, and receive a kit that included a motivational cd/Bacchus DVD, candy, mints, an written info on quiting. It went on from 10 am to 1 pm, and by 11:30 pm all of the 45 kits had been passed out, Laurie Carlberg , director of Health, Physical Education and Recreation/Student Life Division, says that more kits will be in soon.She is partnered with Kent State in the tobacco control project, a year and a half program set on the LCCC campus.
It is documented that chronic exposure to nicotine may cause an acceleration of coronary artery disease, peptic ulcer disease, reproductive disturbances, esophageal reflux, hypertension delayed wound healing and an array of cancers that can result in death.
Although many know this it is said that 7 out of 10 smokers would like to quit but still don't. Altogether the smoke out was a great turn out. One person who decided to quite even turned in their cigarettes and another turned in their chewing tobacco. It's not too late to call it quits on lighting up or any other use of tobacco.
