Sharon Van Houte, Programs for Student Success, described the event as a way for our international students to relax and to have one evening where they wouldn't have to worry about exams, classes and finances.
Two hundred personal invitations were mailed directly to the international students taking classes at Lorain County Community College, as well as students participating in the English as a Second Language program. One hundred five students attended the dinner.
The students gathered on the main floor of the CC Mall at 5:00 p.m. Introductions were made through a variety of games that encouraged everyone to mingle and learn each other's names.
LCCC's Cafeteria personnel prepared and served dinner. There were three main dishes to choose from, plus several side dishes including salad, cheese and crackers and plenty of fruit. The staff did an excellent job of ensuring that there was something available for dinner that would meet every student's dietary needs.
Towards the end of dinner, a raffle was held. Each student received a prize, and a small gift bag filled with candy.
After dinner they reconvened in the CC Mall where Mary Harwood, Line Dancing instructor at LCCC, led them in various dances. Then they were treated to a presentation of the Ti Chi Fan dance and ribbon dancing by Debbie Liou.
