Gudielines for submitting literary work to the Collegian online edition

Thanks to all the readers who suggested the Collegian online publish student poetry and other literary work.

Since there are other venues for students to have their literary work published, the Collegian online will not automatically publish such work.

In order for poetry to be considered, it should be newsworthy. Examples would be poetry that wins an award, deals with a current issue on campus or is presented in public.

Submissions need to include information on how to contact the author.

The Collegian reserves the right to reject any content that may be offensive, contains profanity, or is inappropriate for a general audience.

I think this is a good idea, but not at the same time. I feel that it would be very hard for authors to write about such things instead of feelings. I can understand someone being able to write a poem about a game at the Special Olympics that they went to because it is something that maybe that person can put their emotions into. (Continued…)

What the Collegian online edition was trying to do was establish guidelines for accepting literary works to be published.

Poetry dealing with a current issue doesn't necessarily mean that it has to be about a specific event on campus. (Continued…)
