Advertising Students at LCCC Say "Buckle Up or Pay Up"
Advertising students at Lorain County Community College have been enlisted to develop and implement the 2007 LCCC Safe Driving Campaign. The goal of the campaign is to increase seat belt usage among college students, particularly those in the 18-25 age-group who are least likely to buckle up.
The students have chosen "Buckle Up or Pay Up" as the campaign slogan to highlight the financial risks of failing to use a seat belt. The average cost of a seat belt ticket, not including court fees, is $95.
The 2007 LCCC Safe Driving Campaign is a program of The Lorain County Safe Community Coalition, which is conducted through the Lorain County General Health District. The groups have worked with LCCC students before, conducting surveys and focus groups to better understand factors that cause low rates of seat belt usage in 18-25 year olds, and things that would persuade members of this group to buckle up. Financial penalties were high on the list of reasons to use a seat belt.
The campaign starts March 26th to spread the "Buckle Up or Pay Up" message prior to spring break.
