On the outside, Alexis "Lexie" Brezinski looks like the average LCCC Student.
She walks campus Monday through Friday wearing the typical sweatpants, flip flops, hoodies, and a messy ponytail. Brezinski slings her book bag over one shoulder as she rushes through the parking lot to get to class - she says she is usually running late.
Brezinski has been attending LCCC for four semesters, majoring in physical therapy. "I really want to go into fashion because I'm really weird and creative," she said. "But my mom won't let me because she thinks it's not a real career."
Brezinski, like many LCCC students, lives with her parents. Brezinski lives in Sheffield Village with her mom, step dad, brother, sister, and two half-brothers. She's very family oriented and loves to play with her younger brothers, ages 2 and 3. "I like to spend a lot of time with them because they have the same mentality I do," Brezinski explained.
Brezinski's brothers feel the same way, both saying she is their "favorite sister." Her brother Mike added, "Sometimes we play pirates, and sometimes we play monster, and sometimes we play race car. Lexie even lets me have cow parties in her room. She fixes my train set, too."
Brezinski, still like most LCCC students, holds a part-time job. She works in the Dining Services Department at Avon Oaks Nursing home on Detroit Road. Brezinski is also a Mark Cosmetics representative and volunteers at St. Theresa Church in Sheffield Village.
All this keeps her pretty busy but Brezinski maintains a social life. She has a boyfriend, another LCCC student, whom she says she sees whenever she has the time. Brezinski's favorite hobby is running. "I set my treadmill for 10 miles an hour, then run for 10 minutes in the morning and I just feel so good," Brezinski said, beaming.
Brezinski appears to be like many of the students at LCCC, but she is different from many. Lexie is only 17 years old, and is still a senior in high school. Lexie attends both high school and college, and receives credit for both, through the PSEO program offered at her high school.
