Lorain County Community College has officially become wireless.
Since spring semester, The Information Systems and Services Department (ISS) has been busy installing a campus-wide wireless network spanning throughout every building and public area on campus.
The comprehensive network enables any LCCC student with a wireless compatible laptop to access the internet while on campus. Similar to popular Wi-Fi hotspots, "We have open wireless access on campus", said Mark McVey.
As a result of the re-vamped wireless network, students have been bringing their laptops to campus. "I use mine to take notes, and when I'm not in class I like to surf the web," said Public Administration major Craig Deckleman.
LCCC Duck Program Director Jeff Traxell relates, "It's great. There's a quick connection and quick downloads."
Overall students have been satisfied with the reliability and performance of the network.
The only complaint received had to do with the censorship of some popular websites. The internet situation is the same as any other computer on campus with students unable to access a few websites.
Laptop user Mike West said, "I wish they didn't put blocks on some sites because sometimes you need to do certain things. I feel I am pretty much an adult and can go on whatever site I want."
Students with questions about connecting to the network can visit the LCCC Help Desk located in LR 119
