The morning of Wednesday Sept. 26 started off normal for the students at Lorain County Community College, but was interrupted by smoke in the College Center and power surges throughout the campus.

"We had power problems all day throughout the campus," explained Bob Flyer, Director for the Physical Plant Operations.

Although the weather wasn't too hot on Wednesday, students had to experience sitting through class without air conditioning. It wasn't too pleasant. However, some students were pleased with the lights continually turning off because it delayed class for a short while.

"The power is from Ohio Edison, and we were receiving severely higher voltage than normal," said Flyer. "What that did was cause the electric motors in the basement to overheat, causing smoke."

There was in fact no fire, only smoke in the College Center. The fire department arrived because the fire alarm was pulled by someone who saw the smoke.
