Registration for the Young Writers Association, a club for writers of all styles, has started at Lorain County Community College.
Ryan Dunkle, a video production and psychology major, was inspired to form the Young Writers Association by the belief that many people like to write. He also said he believes writers enjoy listening to other writers work as well as getting feedback for their own.
The first requirement to begin the club is to have the right amount of members. "I've had about 5 entries but I need a minimum of 10 to be chartered," Dunkle said.
Another requirement is a constitution has to be written, officers have to be appointed and a time and place for meetings must be established.
"[The main goal of the club is] to encourage people to put their creativity into a form of writing," Dunkle said. He said that psychologists believe writing about personal feelings relieves stress. "I can't keep a diary too well," Dunkle said, "but any time I have a thought I grab the nearest piece of paper and start writing."
Dunkle said his traumatic life inspired his writing. It included living with two drug-addicted parents. Dunkle's writing history is short. "I started writing a year ago," he said, "and I haven't stopped since."
