Last spring, while many LCCC students were studying for tests, or working odd-jobs for cash, LCCC Business Major Eric Polansky was on the golf course perfecting his game.

Polansky, an Amherst native, is an All-American golfer who, this Spring, made it all way to the D3 College National Championship in New York where he tied for 8th.

To get to there, Polansky had to beat out one of the medalists from the regional qualifying tournament.

On the final day of the tournament, Polansky was one stroke behind the leader, who he coincidently became paired up with.

Polanksy came out early and established a five stroke lead, but his opponent from Cincinnati, battled back to tie on the 13th hole.

It all came to a dramatic head, when on the 17th hole, Polanksy sank a 35 ft. putt, which led to a win. "It was probably one of my most memorable moments in my golf career," said Polansky.

A huge fan of Titleist golf products, Polansky related his short game and irons as his strong suits. "As I got older and learned more about the game, I found out that [driving] is a small part of being able to play well. I try to shift more concentration on the ways to score like wedges and short irons."

Polanksy admitted that he likes PGA pros Zach Johnson and Rich Beam. Beam, who is relatively unknown, is an Arizona golf club pro who won one of the four prestigious majors on the PGA Tour. "To win that kind of tournament, that had to be an awesome achievement for him," said Polansky.

When asked about his future plans after LCCC, Polansky said he'd like to play golf for a four year university, preferably somewhere warm. "I would much rather go down to Florida or the Carolinas so I could play [golf] all year round. Some of the weather up here gets pretty rough."
