A female reported Tuesday Nov. 27 that she was assaulted by an unknown male while walking to her vehicle in South 5 lot at Lorain County Community College between 8:30-9 p.m. outside of the University Center.
From a voluntary statement by the female, a man in his late 30's/ early 40's, wearing a jean jacket over a gray hooded sweatshirt, while smoking a cigarette, followed the female, who chooses to remain anonymous, to her vehicle shouting inappropriate things.
When she arrived at her vehicle, the male grabbed and spun her around, only to receive pepper spray to the face, and then proceeded to punch the female in the face.
While the attack continued, a bystander witnessed the assault and then approached the scene intending to help the female victim.
After the passerby approached, the suspect ran to a nearby wooded area and disappeared.
The female victim went straight home after the incident, and then alerted Campus Security along with Elyria Police Department.
"The Elyria Police Department will be on campus Tuesday Dec. 4 to take further statements from the victim," said Keith Brown, Interim Director of Campus Security.
A campus alert e-mail sent Thursday Nov. 29 revealed that Campus Security is working in conjunction with the Elyria Police Department on the investigation. They are working with the female to get a sketch/description of the suspect, which will be released publicly in the near future
If anyone has any information that will assist in the investigation, please contact Campus Security at 440-366-4053 or 440-366-4444.
Campus Security Officers will increase campus vehicle patrols to ensure the safety of campus community members.
Brown and Campus Security would like to remind all students, while on campus, be aware of your surroundings, park in a well-lit area, avoid walking alone, contact Campus Security if you would like an escort, and report any suspicious activity or encounters to Campus Security immediately.
