LCCC should recycle more.

As the country becomes more aware of the effects of global warming, energy conservation, and waste production, citizens have made attempts to better the environment we live in. However, the community college has not gotten that far quite yet.
LCCC is well known for its outstanding academics and university partnership, but what about its care for the environment?
The paper towel dispensers were changed last semester to produce less waste, but what about recycling?
At the end of last semester, our staff needed to get rid of our huge stack of newspapers. We called Maintenance to see if they could recycle our papers, but it turns out they only throw paper in the trash.
Coming from a family who has recycled their whole lives, throwing the newspapers away felt wrong.
There are a couple paper recycling dumpsters throughout the city, I started thinking, why don't we have a dumpster like that on campus?
It's not even just newspapers either. There are boxes for paper recycling, but they are rarely emptied. The one in the Collegian office was full all of last semester.
In every room I have been in, there was no receptacle for empty bottles. There are vending machines all throughout campus, and a good number of bottles are thrown away.
We should have recycling on campus. It is time for our generation to take a stand on this serious issue. As a community college, LCCC should promote this green way of thinking.
We need to think globally, but act locally. I say we start with the community college.
