Any child of the 80's can definitely appreciate the 1987 classic cartoon film The Brave Little Toaster. This movie is based on the novel by Thomas M. Disch.

Five appliances set out on a journey to find their "Master," Rob, after they are abandoned in the family's cottage.

The tenderhearted toaster, voiced by Deanna Oliver, leads this group of peculiar companions on their voyage. There is Lampy the lamp, voiced by Timothy Stack, who is ironically dim-witted, Blankey, an electrical blanket, voiced by Timothy E. Day, who is overly sensitive, and Kirby, the vacuum cleaner, voiced by Thurl Ravenscroft, whose compassionate side is masked by his outwardly brutish attitude. The fifth character, The Radio, voiced by Jon Lovitz is an annoying tag along who constantly chimes in just at the wrong moment. Together they make up an exceptional cast of hopeful rejects.

On their journey they face some obstacles. They get separated, and later get lost in the woods and are abducted by a used appliance salesman who intends to butcher them for sale. There is a particularly horrific blender scene that at the time wouldn't have been censored for children. They make it all the way to the city and encounter an old TV set (voiced by Jonathan Benair) from the cottage.

They finally locate the "Master" and meet the unfriendly new appliances in his new home. There is one final brush with danger before they are finally reunited with their master who never planned on leaving them behind.

Though the movie has a hopeful message, it has some very heartbreaking and at times frightening undertones. However, it comes complete without catchy sing-alongs and some adult humor that can't help but make you smile.

If you loved this movie, there were two additional toaster movies titled The Brave Little Toaster and his Companions Travel to Mars, and The Brave Little Toaster to the Rescue. Pick 'em up and relive the magic of a more simple time when talking toasters and pop tarts were the high point of your day.
