The LCCC Men's Basketball team is finishing up their season with a Saturday game against Columbus State.

The Commodores, who have a 12-14 record, are looking forward to ending their season on a high note.

Head Coach Ralph Berrios said the team has played well throughout the season while playing in a tough conference.

Berrios related the team's main challenge was competing with the other teams in the league. "We tried to focus on adapting to the strength and speed and athleticism of the players within our conference. I think our players adjusted well."

The Commodores were led this season by guards Trevor Wenzell and Joey O'Keefe. "All the kids made a lot of progress," said Berrios. "Trevor Wenzell is being nominated for All-American, and Joey O'Keefe kept us afloat all season. Lee Palmer, Andy Gerding, and Mo Bennet have grown since the beginning. All of our players made strides to help us get to where we are."

Having a great year for the Commodores is former Bay Village high school star Trevor Wenzell.

Wenzell is currently ranked 5th in scoring with 22.8 points per game, and 7th in 3 point field goal percentage in the Junior College Division three league, stats that have earned Wenzell a nomination for All-American.

"It looks like he's got a good opportunity to represent for LCCC on the All-American team," said Berrios.

As the season come to an end Coach Berrios is happy with the progress the team has made. "From a coaching standpoint, I'm really happy with the strides our team has made. We kept getting better. Unfortunately the season is winding down, but that progress will carry over to next season.

The Commodores look to improve their roster with freshman additions next fall.

"We've got kids with good size coming from good programs," said Berrios. "We're looking forward to next year."
