LCCC offers students the opportunity to schedule a semester long work out plan with their very own personal trainer.

The program is available through the Physical Education department where students can visit to arrange an appointment.

The trainers have completed national certifications and many have graduated from LCCC's own two-year personal fitness program.

According to Personal Trainer Kathryn Orentek when most people exercise on their own, they tend to do them the wrong way. "We see that about 99 percent of the time [people] are doing the exercises improperly, they don't have a balanced work out program, or are doing exercises that won't meet their goals," said Orentek.

The personal trainers work with employees, students, and members of the community to help them train to meet their fitness goals.

The trainers tailor individual workout programs for clients depending on their own personal goals.

"We teach them how to correctly do the exercises to meet their goals while keeping them motivated," said Orentek.

One on one with a personal trainer isn't only for people who want to lose weight. The trainers can create programs for all different types of personal goals, from endurance training to muscle building.

"Some people want to lose weight, some people want to improve overall fitness. Some people want to improve their strength," said Faculty member Doug Herndon. "Athletes may want to improve their performance in a certain sport. Once you determine the goals, the trainer will design a program around those goals.

LCCC faculty members can enjoy 12 free personal trainer appointments a year as part of their benefits package.

Student and community members who schedule pay $140 for four sessions.
