Daniel Urban is the kind of politician everyone wants in office.

Urban, a 37-year-old Republican from Avon, has the mentality most politicians should. He said politicians should be bright and willing to listen.

"We are missing that in Columbus and Washington," said Urban. "[They] could sit across the table, and come to the conclusion to agree to disagree. They'd find they have a lot more in common than they think. I don't understand the personality conflicts.

Urban grew up in Brook Park and only spent four years away from Ohio. These four years were spent at Yale University in Connecticut.

He moved back to Ohio to attend law school. He now resides in Avon with his wife of six years, Kristine.

Urban has been an attorney at Wickens, Herzer, Panza, Cook & Batista in Avon since 2003.

In 2006, he became a city councilman for the city of Avon 4th Ward district, where he represents approximately 3,000 constituents.

There are seven members of the city council: four wards and three at-large. Each member represents the same number of constituents. Urban represents the Southeast quarter of Avon.

Urban responds to phone calls or e-mails of concerns of citizens.

"Lately they are about flooding issues, development issues, residential and commercial," said Urban, "plus random issues such as snow removal, trash removal, and repairing street lights."

Urban calls the citizens back quickly, either answering the questions himself or putting them in touch with whom they need to talk to.

"The most rewarding part is responding to people's issues quickly," said Urban.

Urban moved to Avon when he married Kristine in December 2001.

"I feel fortunate to be a part of it," Urban said. "It's a great city."

He said it's true that all ships rise with the tide, and hopefully that can happen with Lorain County. Urban said he believes jobs can only benefit the county, and we need to think more globally.

"I can't fix it," said Urban, "but I have life and job experience to help figure it out and fix problems. Being an attorney helps."

Urban is running for the 57th House District of the General Assembly. The 57th House District is made up of Avon Lake, Avon, North Ridgeville, Sheffield Village, the Eastern Wards of Elyria, Carlisle, Columbia, and Eaton townships.
