LCCC to vote for Student Senate President next week

Beginning Tuesday, April 22, students will once again decide who the next Student Senate president will be. Voting will take place online from April 22 through April 24, and University Partnership students will be able to vote in person at the University Partnership office or at the Student Life office during regular business hours.

The candidates for president include Anthony Haslage, Shaquille Azir, and Laura Nash.

In a candidate's press release, Anthony Haslage wrote that Haslage "is a 30-year-old Business Administration student at Kent State University with an overall 3.66 GPA. He currently holds an Associates of Arts degree and an Associates of Business Administration degree from Lorain County Community College and will graduate in December of 2008, with his Bachelors of Business Administration degree from KSU."

Presidential Candidate Shaquille Azir is a Business major. According to a press release, Azir ". . . owned a(n) Allstate Insurance office for several years and now I am returning to school so that I can eventually become an attorney. I (was) President elect at Cuyahoga Community College in 2007. I also hold Advanced Leadership Certification.

Azir wrote "I believe that Student Senate should be very visible at LCCC, I want to get Student Senate involved in mentoring the Early College students and incoming freshman. I also want to serve the student body and try to incorporate more activities that everyone will enjoy!"

Laura Nash, a business major at LCCC, currently serves as the vice president of LCCC's Student Senate. According to a press release, Nash has served for the past two years as the president of the Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE).

Nash wrote that she hopes to work closely with security to ensure a safe environment and implement new procedures, promote student awareness and participation in campus procedures and events, provide sufficient working spaces with proper technological equipment for our clubs and organizations, implement a campus wide recycling program and create a 24 Hour Study/Lounge Space on Campus.
